Mandarin Program K-3

For the 2019-2020 School Year

Mandatory Parent Meeting on To Be Determined

Why Chinese?

Chinese is the most widely spoken first language in the world and the third most commonly spoken language in the U.S.  China is heir to the traditions of one of the world’s richest and most ancient cultures and home today to the world’s second largest economy.  Its political, economic, and cultural impact in generations to come will be significant.

Proven Benefits of Language Programs

  • Long term second language skills
  • Improved performance on standardized tests
  • Enhanced cognitive skills
  • Increased cultural sensitivity

Who Can Participate?

The Mandarin Program at Quail Run seeks to enroll Kindergarten students for the upcoming school year. Kindergarten students who live in the Quail Run attendance area and enroll in Quail Run's Kindergarten Program during the enrollment window have priority over those students who live outside the Quail Run attendance area.  Also, attending our spring parent meeting is mandatory to be considered. A lottery is held if there are more Quail Run students than spaces available. The district will determine if students who live outside the Quail Run attendance area are allowed to attend Quail Run through the Open Enrollment Transfer process.  Because of the tremendous interest in this program from our San Ramon families, students who live outside of the district will not be considered for this program.

Our Mission is to:

  • Establish and foster student interest and motivation in learning Mandarin

  • Student-centered curriculum - meaningful activities and project-based learning to encourage use of language
  • Real-world application - providing students with listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to promote practical use of language
  • Integrating technology - coaching students on how to use tools around them to support their language development
